Bella Festa with Jennifer Cardini (Correspondant / Dischi Autunno)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are so excited to share this event with everyone! We have kept this under wraps for quite a while and now it's finally coming as we welcome the amazing Jennifer Cardini to Tengu! This will be our last party in Tengu of 2023 and we couldn't have imagined a better person to say goodbye to an amazing year of parties in the venue than Jennifer <3
Jennifer Cardini long since outgrew Pulp, the Parisian club where she first made her name and set off on a mission to take her vision of house music to audiences around Europe and beyond. Over the course of a career spanning of fifteen years, she has delivered DJ sets fusing techno, electro and disco at the world’s most prestigious clubs (Panorama Bar in Berlin, De School in Amsterdam, Lux in Lisbon, Good Room in New York) and hottest festivals (Melt, Nuit Sonores, Burning Man).
“I do believe this music holds something deeper than just dancing. This is what I liked about it when I was 17 and realized I was gay. I felt like an outsider in my stuffy hometown, but suddenly the disco welcomed me into a community.” - Jennifer Cardini
For the last 30 years, French-born Berlin-based Jennifer Cardini has been welcoming people into the discotheque. Her belief that something more was hidden under the surface of electronic music has put her at the helm of tiny sweaty lesbian bars, flamboyant Ibiza superclubs, and precarious off-the-beaten-path warehouse raves. Her determination to transcend gender and sexual orientation as an artist has placed her alongside a small gang of DJ/Producers from the late 1990s, tattooed and scarred from shattering the glass ceiling for women and queers in dance music. The sometimes-gothic always-seductive wave-laced house music she canonized in her mixes, record labels (Correspondent, Dischi Autunno), remixes, and productions helped rephrase the world's understanding of the French dance music scene. Naturally, Cardini’s reign as one of Paris’s most revered disc jockeys means she has been chosen to work with some of the biggest names in fashion and couture.
The transformative power of music has been a constant inspiration for Cardini and feeds her creative curiosity. Just as soon as the mainstream thinks they know how to define her, she's onto something else. It is an essential piece of her status as an underrecognized pioneer. Until now, most fans didn’t know she owns her own management agency and music licensing company or that she has been cooking up a festival series to celebrate her three decades in music called Nightclubbing - “a love declaration to club culture and its diversity, everything that made me fall in love with electronic music, and also gave me a sense of community and belonging.” The new series will also be paired with a 2023 Hör residency and a slew of new remixes and mixes. Cardini has also started a 3rd record label project with filmmaker Lou Fauroux (Faeries). The label’s releases will represent Cardini’s latest sonic evolution into a grittier, more cyber-synthetic palette.
As many of her peers bemoan the popularization of house and techno, Cardini still follows her instincts that this music means something more. The disco may be getting bigger, but Cardini continues to welcome the outsiders in with her selections and curation. Although the mainstream may never catch up to her icon status, the underground has already crowned Cardini, ensuring that if they do, they sure will have a lot of music to sift through.
Support on the night will be from ourselves :)
Can't wait to see everyone there xxx
