Crystal Queer Club Presents: Snakes Equinox – A Night of Rebirth
This Saint Patrick’s Day, we challenge the myth. Legend says Saint Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland—but the truth? There were never any snakes in Ireland. The “snakes” were a metaphor for the ancient, indigenous spiritual practices and the queer identities erased by colonialism and the imposition of Christianity.
Saint Patrick’s story was a narrative crafted to justify the suppression of Ireland’s native culture and the erasure of its diverse sexualities and gender expressions. The “snakes” represent what was driven underground by forces seeking conformity—both spiritually and sexually.
Snakes Equinox is a defiant reclaiming of that history—a celebration of the resilience of LGBTQIAPN+ communities, indigenous cultures, and all marginalized identities that refuse to disappear.
