We are back with our next edition of Steam Dreams! I've really enjoyed these nights, the support and energy have been massive! For this addition we've invited Code (subtle audio) from Limerick down as our guest! If your familiar with Code or haven't seen him yet your in for a real treat with his unique style there will be an amazing blend of breaks, drum funk, dnb and Jungle to get you moving! Myself and the Don Jet Li will be stepping in on support so expect jungle elements and heavy basslines! Hosted in Corks coolest venue Dali! We'll have crazy visuals, lighting and I'll also be loading the Steam Lite Express Soundsystem back in for this one for that extra boom! Code went from tuning into day-time national radio circa 1991 to hearing tapes of The Prodigy in 1992 and then he found early hardcore / rave / drum & bass / jungle by the age of 14 and that was it - the perfect music ! In those early days it was labels like Reinforced, Moving Shadow, Rugged Vinyl, Suburban Base and artists like 4-Hero, FBD Project, Intense, Hyper-On-Experience, Rufige Kru, Tango and Bizzy B that influenced his taste. Also, tapes of Dj’s like LTJ Bukem, Randall, Fabio & Ratty really made him want to get his own decks and start mixing himself.
Since then Code has become a successful Dj in his own right, promoting and playing at his own night 'Nu Killa Beats' for 10 years aswell as playing many towns and cities in Ireland, the UK, Holland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Iceland, the US and Canada. Many of these nights were as the headline DJ and others were alongside the likes of Andy C, Fabio, Bailey, ASC, Breakage, Equinox, DJ Ink, Calibre, Chris Inperspective, Mickey Finn and Remarc to name just a few.
To help spread the sound of D&B and Jungle he started a record label - 'Subtle Audio' in 2005. Since then artists such as Alpha Omega, Equinox, Breakage, Fanu, Macc, dgoHn, DJ Trax, Dub One, Nebula, Fracture & Neptune, Dissident and many more have contributed beats to the project and there are more releases planned for 2023 and beyond.
The 'Bustle Beats' sub-label was launched in 2012 and caters for oldskool influenced, heavy hitting beats and another sub-label 'Treaty Treats' kicked off in 2018 with a focus on music made locally in his home town of Limerick.
Apart from releasing music by other artists, Code has also released quite a few of his own productions - his debut release appeared on a compilation CD on the Saint Petersberg based label 'Opposide' in 2015 and 2 collaborations with Mecca got a vinyl release on Subtle Audio that year as well. Since then he's had further vinyl outings with 'Set Me Free' and 'From The Heart' on Subtle Audio and Treaty Treats respectively and 'Sunday Jazz' dropped on Subtle Audio last year.
Besides all that he continues to spread the sound of D&B / Jungle with his Subtle Audio Show on the long-running internet radio station Jungletrain. You can catch him on there fortnightly on Sundays from 8-10pm.
