Ricky Chong illuminates the oft-forgotten music of yesteryear with prescient sounds of the now, with the Irish-born DJ and producer dispersing timeless selections and immense passion to jubilant dancefloors. His DJ sets tend to circumvent the glorious sounds of dance music’s past to present, with genres changing in the blink of a blend; if it sounds good and moves him both emotionally and physically, then he’s all about it. Ricky achieves this perennial fusion through remarkable technical dexterity in the booth. His willingness to explore this vast wonderland of musical joy is testament to his ferocious appetite for exploration within the dance. Ricky possesses an undying love for his craft, eager to present his seemingly infinite record collection to dancefloors weekly. He is nothing short of memorable moments whenever taking to the decks, making his guardianship in the club a vital experience for anyone willing to abide.
Ricky plied his trade through his record digging mentality. Having paid heed to his father’s vast collection from young, Ricky became a devoted disciple of the vinyl. This obsession engulfed his world, eventually leading to his first club show with his hometown’s legendary Faint crew in Sligo on Ireland’s west coast. Since then, he has been an omnipresent figure of Ireland’s clubbing world playing highly touted sets at Index, Lola Montez, AVA Festival, Life Festival, Fuinneamh, Electric Picnic, Jika Jika, Otherside Festival as well as multiple appearances within the UK circuit in Lakota Bristol and his recent show at The Crofters Rights. He also holds a notable monthly residency at renowned Dublin hi-fi bar The Big Romance.
The Yawlag Collective will be kicking off the night before Ricky's electrifying set. Formed in 2022, Yawlag Collective stands at the forefront of Galway’s burgeoning electronic music scene as a vibrant collective of DJs and producers. Passionate about creating an environment where artists flourish, the collective curates safe spaces for rich tunes, energetic dancing, and deep connections, reinforcing their commitment to making electronic music accessible and diverse.
This eclectic group comprises artists such as AADM, Chucky ár nGrá, Daithí Krushéir, Fluid Druid, Front Left, Jedi Jinks, KEGS, and Mitch Presents, who each bring their distinctive styles to the collective’s sound. The genres they explore span Progressive House, Tribal, Techno, House, Disco, and Melodic beats, not excluding dynamic Live Performances, which engage and enchant their audiences.
Yawlag Collective’s performances have been featured at notable events including the Éalú Le Grá Music Festival, The Living Poetic - Solstice Showcase, and Mayo Burn. Elevating their influence to new heights, they recently captivated audiences at the renowned All Together Now Music Festival in 2023. These landmark performances underline their growing influence and reach, both within Ireland and on the global stage.
